Travel diaries: week eleven

Right after we exited Yellowstone, we found a place to park the trailer for the night. We wanted to refuel and relax for a bit before our next stop.. We felt so lucky to find a spot right down on the water at Grasse lake. Our site was so peaceful, and almost perfect if it wasn’t for the mosquitos that came with it.

Just South of Yellowstone is Grand Teton National park, made up of the most perfect mountain range we have seen in in the continental U.S. The roads through the park are right beside these perfect peaks, with incredible views right outside of your car window. To access the Tetons, you have many different hikes to choose from.

We hiked around Jenny lake and up to the Cascade trail which was absolutely beautiful! There was an approaching storm (that never ended up hitting us directly) so we were able to listen to the thunder the entire time. We both felt incredibly peaceful here, passing the nearby ranches with their fields of horses, seeing the wildlife in the park, heading into the town of Jackson anytime felt like eating out or exploring the local hang outs, it was a favorite stop on our road trip. We also hiked up to amphitheater lake which was challenging but had really beautiful views for part of the ascent and the lake was gorgeous!

Moving on from this area was sad, not only because we loved our experience here but we are realizing these are the final weeks in the trailer. We are winding down, getting closer to our home state of Michigan, and closer to that next chapter in our lives.

We started the drive to South Dakota to visit with family, and made sure to stop at a few notable places on our way.

The black hills area is STUNNING. We wish we could have spent more time there on this trip!

We tried checking out wind cave national park but they were closed down temporarily, this drive really made us seriously start talking about “next time” ;)

Next week will be a little different than normal. We are parking the trailer, spending intentional time with family, meeting our new nephew, and slowing down for a few days.

Life is so good.
